The Madrid City Council has announced the opening of the application period for the Adapta Plan 2026, an initiative funded with four million euros aimed at improving accessibility in residential homes and premises across the capital.

Starting Tuesday, April 28, citizens can apply for aid from this program, which introduces tactile paving as its main novelty. This solution, characterized by its relief and chromatic contrast, is designed to optimize orientation and safety for people with visual impairments in various environments.
The plan maintains its four main lines of action: adapting homes for people with disabilities, improving accessibility in premises within residential buildings, adapting homes for people with rare diseases, and intervening in common access elements of buildings. The aid will cover everything from adapting bathrooms and kitchens to installing support systems and home automation, as well as eliminating architectural barriers in entrances and common areas.

"The absence of adequate access can mean being isolated in their own homes. This is an especially serious problem in Madrid's older housing stock."

the president of Cermi Madrid
According to data provided by the City Council, 70% of the actions carried out to date are related to reduced mobility, while 12% correspond to visual impairment, and the remaining 18% to other disabilities or rare diseases. Since its launch in 2020, the Adapta Plan has invested over 20 million euros to improve accessibility in Madrid homes.
The 2026 call for applications will remain open for several months, aiming to reach the largest possible number of residents who require these improvements. All detailed information regarding requirements, documentation, and the application procedure is available on the municipal website.
