The Madrid City Council has received official communication from Vox regarding the expulsion of Javier Ortega Smith, Carla Toscano, and Ignacio Ansaldo, compelling the Plenary Presidency to decide on their status and the future of the municipal group.

The General Secretariat of the Plenary of the Madrid City Council has received the formal letter from Vox notifying the expulsion of councilors Javier Ortega Smith, Carla Toscano, and Ignacio Ansaldo. This situation presents a dilemma for the municipal corporation, which must now resolve the status of the three councilors and the continuity of the political group.

"The only record we have is that a letter has been submitted by the Vox political party to the General Secretariat of the Plenary of the Madrid City Council formally communicating the expulsion of Javier Ortega Smith, Ignacio Ansaldo, and Carla Toscano."

José Luis Martínez-Almeida · Mayor of Madrid
The mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, confirmed the receipt of the document during a press conference after the Governing Board, held in Carabanchel. The decision on whether the councilors will become non-attached or if the Vox municipal group will dissolve now rests with the Plenary Presidency.
For his part, Javier Ortega Smith has announced his intention to challenge the expulsion in Justice. Through a message on the social network X, the former Vox leader described the measure as “illegal, a violation of his fundamental rights, arbitrary, and arrogant.” The party's National Executive Committee ratified the expulsion after dismissing his appeal.
The president of the Plenary, Borja Fanjul, with the legal assistance of the general secretary, will be responsible for making the relevant decisions regarding the situation of the three councilors. Martínez-Almeida has urged consideration of all options, both for the councilors as non-attached and for the future of the Vox municipal group.
