The municipal spokesperson and delegate for Security and Emergencies has expressed dissatisfaction with the Government of Spain's management of the migrant regularization process. She described the measure as "inhumane" and warned that it could lead to coexistence problems in cities, suggesting that this situation might be intentional on the part of the Government.
“"The procedure is being executed in a "botched" manner, without rigor, and shifting all the pressure onto city councils."
These statements were made after the presentation of a socioeconomic report on Madrid. The municipal representative reiterated that the municipal Executive had already warned about the potential consequences of this initiative. The problem, in her view, lies not only in the content of the process but also in its implementation, which lacks adequate planning and prior consultation with local administrations, who ultimately bear the burden of attention and processing demands.
The Madrid City Council has once again highlighted the lack of consultation and additional resources to cope with the increase in applications and procedures resulting from regularization. The deputy mayor lamented that the impact of the measure falls on already strained municipal public services, without effective coordination from the State.
“"This is a "frivolous and irresponsible" action that compromises the ordinary functioning of already strained resources and can harm both the migrants themselves and all citizens who depend on these services."
She urged that migration policy be managed "with rigor" and not through improvised decisions. While emphasizing that Madrid has always been a welcoming city, she stressed that this reality should not justify procedures that lack proper planning. The deputy mayor concluded by calling for a review of the regularization approach and for city councils to be provided with the necessary resources to manage its consequences without compromising the quality of service to the entire population.
