The Madrid City Council has designed an extensive cultural agenda that spans libraries, cultural centers, museums, and outdoor spaces. The activities, which began on Monday, are designed to engage people of all ages in the world of reading.
The program kicked off with events at the Miguel Delibes Municipal Public Library, including an English storytelling session and a literary style workshop. The inaugural day concluded at the Eugenio Trías Library with a recital that blended poetry and live music.
Throughout the week, easy reading clubs, memory workshops, and creative writing sessions will take place at the Miguel Delibes Library. The José Saramago Library will host the presentation of a children's story, while the Emilia Pardo Bazán Cultural Center will offer the activity 'We Read with Emilia'. The Eugenio Trías Library will be the setting for conferences and book presentations.
On Wednesday, the Miguel Delibes Library will feature a storytelling session and crafts. On the same day, the II Fuencarral-El Pardo Book Fair will be inaugurated. April 23, Book Day, will concentrate the largest number of activities, including a public reading of Don Quixote at the Paseo de la Chopera, as part of the Arganzuela Book Fair.
Throughout Book Day, libraries such as Aluche, Canillejas, and Mario Vargas Llosa will organize workshops, discussion groups, and reading clubs. The Municipal Newspaper Archive will offer a guided tour, and the José Saramago Library will host the awards ceremony for a bookmark competition. In the afternoon, there will be dramatized readings at the Madrid History Museum, round tables at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and literary presentations at the Eugenio Trías Library, highlighting the 'Meet & Read' event at Plaza Matadero.
The weekend will continue with guided tours at the Municipal Historical Library and the Municipal Printing Press, as well as children's activities at the Huerta de la Salud Library. The book fairs of Latina and Moratalaz will open. On Saturday, the Eugenio Trías Library will host a science fiction conference, and there will be children's theater at the Arganzuela Fair. On Sunday, the program will culminate with a concert by the Red Orchestra at the Paseo de la Chopera, along with literary presentations and children's activities in various libraries.
