The Rosaleda of Parque del Oeste in Madrid hosted the 70th edition of the Villa de Madrid New Roses International Competition, an event highlighting floral innovation and urban landscaping.

The Rosaleda of Parque del Oeste in Madrid served as the venue for the 70th edition of the Villa de Madrid New Roses International Competition. The mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the delegate for Urbanism, Borja Carabante, and the councilor for Cleaning and Green Spaces, José Antonio Martínez Páramo, visited the event, which has solidified its global prestige in floral innovation and urban landscape care.
Almeida emphasized the Rosaleda as an emblematic city space, particularly beautiful in May, the month when the popular and international competitions fill the garden with color and life. He encouraged both residents and visitors to discover this enclave that combines nature, heritage, and culture.
This edition featured 25 growers from 12 countries, presenting 82 new rose varieties. An expert jury evaluated aspects such as flowering, resistance, fragrance, and ornamental quality of each specimen.

The Rosaleda is a unique garden that deserves to be visited year-round for its beauty and landscape value.

The international competition's podium included a German rose (gold medal), a Belgian rose (silver), and another German rose (bronze). The evaluation of varieties, submitted one to two years in advance, considered plant vigor, flowering, resistance to diseases and climate, as well as fragrance and ornamental interest.
The international jury, chaired by Benito Cortarelo, awarded various prizes, including certificates of merit for the best varieties by type and special awards for the best fragrance and the best Spanish variety. The number 39 floribunda rose, of German origin, took the gold medal.
Concurrently, the 26th edition of the Popular Rose of Madrid Competition took place, where 6,743 visitors (1,024 online) chose their favorite variety. The winning rose of the popular contest was number 68, an arbustive variety from German breeder Rosen Tantau.
The Rosaleda of Ramón Ortiz, founded in 1955, covers 32,000 square meters and houses over 20,000 rose bushes of approximately 700 different varieties. Designed in the style of major European gardens, it serves as a botanical observation center and a tourist attraction for the capital.
