The Madrid City Council has approved the transfer of 19 municipal plots in 13 districts for the Community of Madrid to construct new senior residences as part of the 40-40 Plan.

The Governing Board of the Madrid City Council has greenlit the transfer of 19 municipal plots, spread across 13 districts of the capital. These lands will be used by the Community of Madrid for the construction of new residences for the elderly, within the framework of the 40-40 Plan.
The deputy mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, announced the measure following the Governing Board meeting. The plots, totaling nearly 200,000 square meters, will be managed by the Regional Ministry of Family, Youth, and Social Affairs of the Community of Madrid.
The future residences will be located in the districts of San Blas-Canillejas, Vicálvaro, Hortaleza, Fuencarral-El Pardo, Carabanchel, Moncloa-Aravaca, Usera, Villaverde, Villa de Vallecas, Moratalaz, Barajas, Puente de Vallecas, and Ciudad Lineal.
Sanz emphasized that this initiative continues the municipal strategy of leveraging currently unused City Council land for social, sports, or economic purposes.
The spokesperson also mentioned other social projects promoted under this strategy, including a palliative care center in Hortaleza, a facility for people with disabilities in San Blas-Canillejas, and an early intervention building for minors with intellectual or developmental disabilities in Villaverde.
Furthermore, future developments include a special employment center in Moratalaz, a residential complex with training classrooms in Vicálvaro, and an accessible sports facility in Villa de Vallecas. Three plots in Usera, Hortaleza, and Ciudad Lineal will be transformed into collaborative housing projects for seniors (cohousing senior).
The City Council also recalled recent land transfers, such as a plot in Hortaleza for the Aladina Foundation (Casa Aladina) and another in Vicálvaro for the Archdiocese of Madrid. Previously, the transfer of land in San Blas-Canillejas to the Porque Viven Foundation for a pediatric palliative care center was authorized.
