The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has greenlit this significant financial allocation, whose primary purpose is to maintain and expand initiatives that support local councils in organizing and managing educational and leisure proposals. These measures aim to ease the burden on families, offering options for childcare and child development outside regular school hours.
One of the program's cornerstones is the school opening service on non-school days, aimed at all students in the locality and areas designated by the municipal councils. This service allows school facilities to remain open from September 1st until the start of the school year, as well as during key holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter, and other non-school dates. Municipalities have the flexibility to choose when to offer this resource, which includes sports and training activities, ranging from first aid to healthy habits.
Extracurricular activities, for their part, are primarily designed for students of the school itself, although they can also accommodate students enrolled in other schools in the same locality or nearby towns, provided they meet the established age requirements and there are available places. The offer is diverse, including academic support, guided study, educational reinforcement, languages, sports, and artistic disciplines, thus enriching the comprehensive education of the participants.
Finally, the Open Playgrounds program benefits both students of the school and other minors in the municipality. These spaces allow free use of sports facilities and, in some cases, access to libraries for reading or studying during evening hours. The objective is to provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can play, read, and exercise outdoors, promoting a positive use of their free time.
