The Delegate for Housing Policies and President of EMVS Madrid, Álvaro González, has announced that the Adapta Madrid Plan, which already includes 2,722 actions, will soon allocate another 4 million euros in a new call. This announcement was made after a visit to an adapted home in the Chamartín district, accompanied by the district councilor, Yolanda Estrada.
The visited home, which received a maximum subsidy of 30,000 euros, has been transformed to meet the needs of its resident, a person with a disability. The works have significantly improved their autonomy, safety, and quality of life, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
Interventions included modifying the interior layout to eliminate architectural barriers and optimize space functionality. Exterior carpentry was also replaced, respecting the building's aesthetics, which contributed to greater energy efficiency and improved thermal and acoustic comfort.
In addition to conservation improvements such as floor, tile, and paint renovations, specific accessibility solutions were incorporated. These included adapting the bathroom, adjusting doors and hallways, installing handrails and support bars, and eliminating unevenness with a ramp to the terrace. The kitchen was also adapted with accessible-height appliances, and home automation systems were implemented to promote personal autonomy.
“"The municipal district boards are fundamental for detecting needs, supporting residents, and ensuring that these aids reach those who truly need them."
The upcoming call for the program, endowed with 4 million euros, will include new lines of action, raising the total investment of the Adapta Plan to 25.1 million euros since its launch. González emphasized the importance of the 21 municipal district boards in this process.
