The Community of Madrid has launched a new aid program with a budget of one and a half million euros. This initiative targets non-profit organizations and aims to support the maintenance of specialized units providing services for individuals with disabilities and mental illness, thereby fostering their personal autonomy. Within the disability sector, these units are known as Independent Living Offices (OVI).
The application period for these subsidies will be open from July 16 to August 5 of this year. The primary objective of this funding is to subsidize personnel costs and other operating expenses incurred during 2026 by non-profit entities operating within the Community of Madrid. These funds will be used to maintain technical units focused on specialized advice regarding personal assistance and the promotion of independent living.
The professional teams receiving these subsidies will also be responsible for developing individual independent living plans (PVI), mediating personal assistant contracts, organizing and delivering training, providing information and support for personal assistance-related benefits, and conducting outreach, awareness, and promotion activities for independent living. It is important to note that these grants do not cover direct personal assistance hours.
By establishing this specific line of structural support for Independent Living Offices, the Consejería de Familia, Juventud y Asuntos Sociales of the Community of Madrid seeks to strengthen the community support model and the personal assistance network. The goal is to ensure the stability of projects run by various entities, promoting equal opportunities and social and territorial cohesion in accessing these crucial services that are key to enabling the effective exercise of rights for people with disabilities and mental illness.
