The Madrid council is launching all its technical monitoring and institutional coordination mechanisms to track thermometer readings and coordinate emergency, care, and public health services to protect the population.
Madrid Salud has issued essential self-care guidelines. Citizens are urged to drink water frequently, even without feeling thirsty, and consume water-rich foods like fruits and salads. Elderly individuals should consume at least two liters daily.
Authorities recommend wearing light-colored, loose-fitting, lightweight clothing made from natural fabrics, along with breathable footwear, sunglasses, hats, and high-factor sunscreen. Indoors, it is advised to lower blinds and awnings during direct sunlight hours and to shower or cool down often.
Intense outdoor sports or heavy labor activities should be limited, particularly between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM, always seeking shade. The extreme danger of leaving people or minors in parked vehicles without air conditioning is reiterated, and citizens are called upon to look out for vulnerable neighbors, especially those living alone.
The municipal plan will operate in close collaboration with the Community of Madrid's regional plan, active until September 15th. AEMET forecasts metropolitan temperatures to reach 36.7 ºC on Friday, 37.8 ºC on Saturday, and a critical peak of 39.2 ºC on Sunday.
The City Council reminds citizens that if they experience symptoms of heatstroke or severe dehydration, they should stop any activity, seek a cool place, and immediately contact emergency health services via 112.
