The festival, presented on Monday, April 14, 2026, by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco Serrano, will take place from April 23 to 26. Its primary goal is to solidify the importance of literature in both the cultural and economic spheres of the Madrid region.
“"The initiative aims to recognize the entire ecosystem that makes the world of books possible: writers, editors, librarians, booksellers, and also readers."
The announcement was made at the Antonio Machado bookstore, where De Paco Serrano emphasized literature's role as a vehicle for cultural transmission and a vital engine for the publishing sector. Under the slogan 'The confines of books', LIBROMAD will offer a diverse program combining different formats and disciplines, with proposals aimed at both specialized audiences and families.
Over the four days of the festival, more than 400 activities will be held across 100 municipalities in Madrid, featuring over 300 authors, alongside 130 bookstores, 120 libraries, and numerous cultural venues. The program will culminate on Sunday, April 26, with a central event in Plaza de España, scheduled from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, offering free and open-to-the-public activities, including a collective reading and a popular hot chocolate event.
Among the highlights is the 'Reading to Re-enchant the World' encounter, featuring Blanca Lacasa, María Hesse, Lorenzo Silva, and Manuel Vilas, moderated by journalist Marta Fernández. The discussion will revolve around the influence of books on memory, critical perspective, and the interpretation of reality. The day's program will also include musical performances by Billy Boom Band, the Celeste Baker performance (linked to Russian Red), and a concert by Alberto & García, which will close the festival.
Children and young people will have a dedicated space from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with workshops and activities by Factoría Teatro, offering storytelling, theatrical dynamics, and a literary scavenger hunt across the square. Additionally, Plaza de España will host a small book fair with Madrid bookstores, where new releases, author signings, and discounts will be available, alongside a food and drink area.
