The flag-raising ceremony featured the participation of migrants and refugees who were forced to leave their home countries due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. The event was led by the Government Delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, alongside the sub-delegate, Pilar Trinidad Núñez.
In his speech, the delegate described the region as an open and welcoming land. However, he urged for vigilance regarding policies that he claims reduce equality for the collective, citing the Regional Government's actions and the removal of references to these demands from municipal signage.
“"Today this flag, at the house of the Government of Spain in Madrid, has been placed by LGTBI+ migrants and refugees who have had to leave their countries due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual characteristics."
The event brought together various social entities, including FELGTBI+, ARCOPOLI, CRISMHOM, COGAM, the Fundación 26 de diciembre, the Fundación EDDY-G, the Fundación Pedro Zerolo, HALEGATOS, and the Red Empresarial por la Diversidad e Inclusión LGTBI. Organizations working with migrant populations such as CEAR, MIGRANTIA, ONG Rescate, and Acción Triángulo were also present.
Institutional representatives also attended, including the Director General for the Real and Effective Equality of LGTBI+ people, Julio Del Valle Iscar; the Undersecretary of Equality, Laura Cadenas Lázaro; and the PSOE spokesperson at the Madrid City Council, Reyes Maroto Illera.
