The Community of Madrid will pursue legal actions as a popular prosecutor following the violent death of a 21-year-old woman, allegedly at the hands of her ex-partner, on May 9th in the Madrid district of Carabanchel. The incident occurred after a fall from her home, and the alleged perpetrator was subsequently arrested.

The Governing Council has authorized the Minister of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, to instruct the General Advocacy to initiate the relevant legal actions. These will be carried out in the name of the regional administration in the preliminary proceedings being conducted by the Section for Violence Against Women of the Court of Instance of Madrid.

Popular prosecution is exercised as a civilly harmed party in criminal cases of violence against women involving death, serious injury, or genital mutilation. This measure, established by regional law, extends protection to children and dependents. Since 2016, the regional executive has applied this faculty in 79 cases.

The Community of Madrid boasts Spain's most extensive network of resources for women victims of violence, comprising 32 centers and residences with a total of 324 residential places, offering tailored, safe, and continuous care.
