The project to modernize the Parquelagos sports facilities in Galapagar has received a decisive boost with the backing of the Community of Madrid. The Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior has agreed to dismiss the complaint filed against this initiative, concluding that no environmental assessment regulations have been violated.
The resolution confirms that the project, promoted by the Galapagar City Council, does not require environmental assessment procedures as it is entirely developed on consolidated urban land. The plot, with a historical sports use, does not affect protected areas, according to municipal technical reports and pronouncements from the Community of Madrid.
Sources from the Galapagueño Executive indicate that these pronouncements, including one from the General Directorate of Biodiversity and Forest Management, support the City Council's criteria and dismantle accusations made against a project aimed at improving the quality of life for Parquelagos residents.
The planned investment amounts to 1.6 million euros for the recovery of over 11,000 square meters of deteriorated sports facilities. The new open-access space will feature two artificial turf 7-a-side football pitches, three paddle tennis courts, a renovated basketball court, a children's area, efficient LED lighting, universal accessibility measures, and on-site parking.
The City Council regrets the attempts by parties such as the PSOE and Más Madrid to hinder this investment through unfounded accusations. The objective is to provide residents with a safe, modern, and quality sports space, transforming degraded courts into facilities that meet current needs.
