This year, the initiative places a strong emphasis on sustainability. Participants will receive a long-sleeved technical t-shirt and a runner's backpack made from 100% recycled materials, and non-polluting vehicles will be used during the event.
Inspired by a 1925 race, the Science Race boasts a history that includes Olympic and World champions. Its course is certified by the Madrid Athletics Federation. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in the general, under-23, and master (35 years and older) categories, for both men and women. In recent editions, over 30% of participants have been women.
Promoted by the CSIC's Vice Presidency for Scientific Culture and Citizen Science, the organization involves nearly 150 people. The event is part of the Science Neighborhood programming and coincides with the 255th anniversary of the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC), offering runners free access to this space after completing the race.
The race is supported by various entities, including the General CSIC Foundation, Lilly, Talgo, the Ramón Areces Foundation, the State Research Agency, the Residencia de Estudiantes, the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation, and Agua del Teleno, which serves as the official beverage. Representatives from these organizations will attend the awards ceremony.
