This measure, announced by the delegate for Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility, Borja Carabante, on his social media, allows drivers to return to the original route at one of the highway's busiest points, enhancing traffic fluidity.
The restoration of this section coincides with the final phase of the A-5 tunneling project, which aims to open the tunnel before the end of 2026. The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, expressed confidence that traffic will be able to use both the A-5 tunnels and the Parque Castellana tunnels before that date.
Upon completion of the works, the current surface route will be replaced by the tunnel, facilitating the creation of the future Paseo Verde del Suroeste, an urban regeneration project for the area.
