With a determined attitude and eagerness to seize the opportunity, novillero Julio Méndez demonstrated his commitment in his debut at the San Isidro festival. Facing a bull herd from Conde de Mayalde, which displayed good presence and nobility, Méndez was fortunate to draw two spirited bulls, particularly the first, 'Babieco', which showed excellent, humble charge. The young bullfighter skillfully handled the bulls, showing firm commitment in every pass.
The performance with 'Babieco' was marked by bravery, featuring kneeling passes and linked series of passes. Although some techniques echoed postmodern bullfighting, Méndez managed to thrill the audience with natural passes and chest passes. The final bernadinas, risky and close to the bull, preceded a thrust that, though slightly detached, was sufficient for the president to grant two ears and a lap of honor for the bull after strong petition.
Having secured a triumphant exit, Méndez did not settle and knelt in the third of the ring to face the sixth bull, 'Segurito'. After an initial scare, he skillfully lanced the bull and performed a series of passes. Despite the bull's diminishing spirit and Méndez's initial miss before the thrust, the ovation he received highlighted the significant impression made by the 19-year-old.
In contrast, his fellow bullfighters did not share the same success. Emiliano Osornio missed opportunities with his first bull and showed isolated details with the second. Pedro Montaldo, affected by a lack of recent bookings, had a modest and uncommitted afternoon.
