A man is in critical condition after falling from his third-floor apartment window while escaping a fire that broke out in the building in Villaverde.

Madrid City Firefighters have successfully extinguished a fire that started in a residential building on Calle Arechavaleta, in the Villaverde district. The blaze, which began around 9:00 PM, generated a dense smoke plume that affected the stairwell and upper-floor apartments.
A resident on the third floor, attempting to escape the smoke, exited through his window and clung to the outside before falling. He sustained severe head trauma and fractures to both legs. After going into cardiac arrest, Samur-Civil Protection managed to revive him and transported him in critical condition to the 12 de Octubre Hospital.

"As a consequence of the impact, he suffered severe head trauma, fractures to both legs, and went into cardiac arrest."

While firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and ventilate the stairwell, residents were confined to their homes for safety. Subsequently, apartments were inspected, and residents were allowed to leave if they wished, though it was recommended they not stay overnight until the premises were fully ventilated.
Samur Social offered emergency accommodation to two affected families. Additionally, Samur-Civil Protection and SUMMA112 attended to 13 other individuals with pre-existing conditions, including a pregnant woman and other affected persons, only two of whom required hospitalization. A psychologist assisted the partner of the severely injured man.
The Municipal Police of Madrid assisted with resident registration and escorted the convoy of the seriously injured man to the hospital. The National Police has taken charge of the investigation into the cause of the incident.
