The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migrations has closed the period for the extraordinary regularization of immigrants with a total of 1,174,978 applications received between April 16 and June 30. Of these, 609,737 have already been processed. The Community of Madrid stands out with 202,424 requests, positioning itself as the second region with the highest volume after Catalonia.
79.6% of the applications are based on exceptional circumstances due to extraordinary residency, while the remaining 20.4% correspond to applicants for international protection. The Secretary of State for Migrations, Pilar Cancela, positively assessed the data, calling it a "historic effort" to achieve an "effective welcoming society".
Online processing was the predominant method, accounting for 83.2% of applications. The nearly 200,000 in-person applications were managed at 448 offices of Correos, Social Security, and Immigration. These offices will remain open until September 30 for the rectification of applications.
The applicant profile shows that 87% are of working age (16-64 years), with 57% men and 43% women. The largest age group is 25 to 34 years old (31.3%). The majority of applicants, 59.4%, are under 34 years old and are expected to join strategic sectors of the labor market.
By nationality, Colombia leads with 25.9% of applications, followed by Morocco (13.3%), Venezuela (11.8%), Peru (8.8%), and Honduras (4.9%). Two out of every three applicants come from Central and South America.
The Ministry also highlighted the dynamism of foreign worker affiliation to the Social Security in the first half of 2026, driven by this regularization process. An additional 159,097 affiliates have been registered as a direct consequence.
Regularized individuals have primarily registered under the General Regime (83.4%), with permanent contracts being the most common (77.3%). The sectors with the most new registrations are Hospitality (38,776), Commerce (20,195), Administrative Activities (19,327), and Construction (18,310).
A voluntary survey reveals that 84% of applicants have full Spanish language proficiency, and 67% have post-compulsory education, including high school, vocational training, or university studies.
