The IAIA Association commemorates International Yarn Bombing Day with two public events in Madrid and Collado Villalba, aimed at promoting the therapeutic and social benefits of knitting.

The IAIA Association has organized two open-to-the-public events to celebrate International Yarn Bombing Day. These gatherings will take place in Collado Villalba on June 9th, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, in front of the Municipal Library, and at the Museum of Costume in Madrid on June 13th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The initiative is part of the project “Knitting Knows No Age: Intergenerational Groups of Solidarity Knitters,” funded by 0.7 percent of the personal income tax from the Community of Madrid.
The main objective of these activities is to create intergenerational meeting spaces, highlight the benefits of knitting as a therapeutic tool, and encourage citizen participation in solidarity projects. The events are open to people of all skill levels, from experienced knitters to beginners, who will be provided with materials and guidance from the association's master knitters.
The “Knitting Knows No Age” project uses wool therapy to improve emotional well-being and promote the active participation of seniors and young people. Through knitting, the association aims to strengthen support networks, combat loneliness, and facilitate knowledge exchange between generations, addressing the societal need for human connection for well-being.
During the gatherings, participants will collectively knit garments that will later be donated to vulnerable groups, emphasizing the project's solidarity aspect. Additionally, workshops will be held to create portable sensory tools, which will be part of the association's participation in the European competition Wool4Health Awards 2026 in Portugal. These creations aim to improve the quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer's and children with autism, showcasing the therapeutic potential of wool.

International Yarn Bombing Day is celebrated worldwide as an opportunity to take knitting to the streets, making it a visible, participatory, and social activity, and to affirm its cultural, therapeutic, and community value.

The activities organized by the IAIA Association aim to promote intergenerationality, disseminate the benefits of wool therapy, foster volunteering, and raise awareness of wool's value as a sustainable resource.
The Association of Solidarity Crafts IAIA is a non-profit organization that uses wool as a tool for social intervention, with a therapeutic, educational, and solidarity-focused approach, developing projects to improve the quality of life for seniors and young people.
