The STOP Formula 1 Madrid Platform organized the demonstration under the slogan “Our neighborhoods are not a circuit”. Attendees expressed their concern over mobility issues already caused by the construction and the noise and dust pollution affecting the area.
A platform member warned about the danger posed by the 1.5-kilometer section of the circuit that will run through residential streets, adjacent to the bike lane. Fears exist that once traffic is restored, drivers might use this stretch to test speeds, especially near roundabouts considered hazardous.
The felling and transplanting of mature trees in the area were also criticized, with many specimens reportedly having already dried out. The platform further denounces the occupation of livestock drovers' roads, the destruction of wetlands, and the diversion of the Vereda de los Leñeros, which residents deem illegal.
It is warned that the circuit's operation will mean “a real torture for residents” due to unbearable noise levels. "Noise makes us sick and the neighborhood sick", stated a spokesperson, emphasizing the direct link between noise pollution and the deterioration of community health.
“"We are not against a Grand Prix in Madrid, but against an urban circuit. Solomon did not split the child in two; we want our neighborhood back."
The collective's main demand is to relocate the Formula 1 circuit away from residential areas, seeking an alternative that does not compromise residents' quality of life.
