“"We welcome the fact that this morning's meeting, promoted by the Neighborhood Federation and the Palomeras Bajas association, can open a solution for a facility that has been disused for decades and was on the verge of becoming the focus of a tragedy after the last fire. Now we hope that the procedures for its demolition, transfer, and transformation into a facility for the neighborhood will be expedited, a place that has great potential and a significant deficit of facilities."

After decades of abandonment and problems for residents, the Social Housing Agency has confirmed the demolition of the old garages on Puerto del Milagro street in Puente de Vallecas, transferring the land to the Madrid City Council for a public facility.
The decision was made at a meeting requested by the Regional Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Madrid (FRAVM), where the manager of the Social Housing Agency committed to carrying out the demolition. This step aims to resolve a situation of deterioration that has caused numerous problems in the Puente de Vallecas neighborhood.
The underground mega-parking, located on Puerto del Milagro street, was built three decades ago by the former IVIMA, but was never used due to structural failures that prevented it from obtaining an activity license. Its abandonment has led to constant degradation and a lack of maintenance and control.
In recent months, the site has been the scene of three fires, the most recent on March 15. Although there were no injuries, these incidents highlighted the dangerousness of the situation. After the last event, the Social Housing Agency of the Community of Madrid proceeded to clean and wall off the parking lot.
It is estimated that the demolition and transfer of the land to the Madrid City Council will take approximately two years. The new public facility, whose type is yet to be defined, will not materialize until the next municipal term. The FRAVM and the neighborhood association have expressed their desire for a cultural center of reference for the city to be built, with spaces dedicated to the associative fabric of Vallecas.
