The broadcast of the Spanish national football team's match, scheduled for this Sunday at 6:00 PM, will not take place on the giant screen installed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in Colón square. The decision, announced this morning by the RFEF and the Madrid City Council, is a response to the predicted high temperatures.
Given the orange alert issued by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) for tomorrow, forecasting temperatures up to 39 degrees Celsius between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and the elevation of the City Council's High Temperature Action Plan (CALORMAD) to its Emergency Phase, the suspension has been decided. This measure follows the risk level increase by the Public Health service of the Community of Madrid.
“"The decision is made with the objective of protecting the health of attendees, organizing staff, and support services participating in the event"
The RFEF, the event organizer, regrets any inconvenience this measure may cause and advises fans, for safety reasons, to watch the match in an air-conditioned space. They recommend avoiding outdoor exposure to the intense heat and following any instructions from emergency and civil protection services.
In the face of high temperatures, basic health advice is recommended, such as cooling down and drinking water frequently, keeping living spaces cool, limiting outdoor sports or work activities to cooler hours (morning or evening) and seeking shade, using sun protection, sunglasses, caps or hats, and wearing light, loose-fitting clothing. Extra precautions should be taken with at-risk individuals.
