The incident occurred around 10 AM when ongoing station construction affected a gas line. Following the leak detection, Metro de Madrid precautionary suspended service on several lines passing through this point in the capital. As of 12:31 PM, service was halted on Line 2 between Alsacia and Goya; on Line 5 between Quintana and Rubén Darío; and on Line 6 between O’Donnell and Nuevos Ministerios.
In addition to the rail disruptions, access to Ventas from the M-30 and Alcalá street heading uphill between Ventas and Manuel Becerra has been closed. The Firefighters of the Madrid City Council and SAMUR (emergency medical services) were deployed preventively, while the Municipal Police established a wide security cordon around the affected area.
The Madrid City Council activated the Complex Incident Procedure and established an Advanced Command Post at the CISEM to coordinate the intervention, with the presence of deputy mayor Inma Sanz. Metro personnel are working on-site to resolve the issue.
The construction project at Ventas station, with an investment exceeding 19 million euros, includes the installation of five elevators and the comprehensive renovation of the old lobby, which has been closed since 1970. The project aims to introduce new access points and renovated spaces to become part of the historic and museum circuit of the Madrid subway.
