The upcoming apostolic visit of Pope Leo XIV to Madrid, scheduled from June 6 to 9, will offer numerous opportunities for the faithful to get close to the Pontiff. In addition to large-scale events in locations like Plaza de Cibeles, Plaza de Lima, and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, four specific popemobile routes have been designed to traverse different areas of the capital.
The Archdiocese of Madrid has released the planned itineraries to facilitate participation from both Madrileños and pilgrims. These routes will pass through major avenues, squares, and historical enclaves, allowing people to greet Pope Leo XIV on his way to the central events of his agenda.
The first route will take place on Saturday, June 6, around 8:30 PM, when the Pontiff travels from Calle Vitruvio to Plaza de Lima for the vigil with young people. The itinerary will include the Paseo de la Castellana.
On Sunday, June 7, at approximately 9:30 AM, the route will depart from the Instituto Ramiro de Maeztu towards Plaza de Cibeles, passing through Calle Serrano, Calle Goya, and Plaza de Colón. From there, he will access the area for the Eucharistic celebration.
On Monday, June 8, two routes will be held. The first, around 6:00 PM, will go from Glorieta de Pirámides to the Almudena Cathedral, passing through Puerta de Toledo, Gran Vía de San Francisco, Calle Bailén, and the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Subsequently, after the meeting at the Almudena Cathedral, the Holy Father will embark on the longest route of the visit. It will start from the historic center, specifically from Calle Bailén, and head to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. This route will include Calle Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Carrera de San Jerónimo, Plaza de las Cortes, Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, Calle Felipe IV, Calle Alfonso XII, Plaza de la Independencia, Calle Alcalá, Calle Príncipe de Vergara, Calle Concha Espina, and Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones.
