The incident occurred around 4:30 AM at exit 19A of the inner lane of the M-40. The car involved was driving against traffic while being pursued by National Police officers, leading to a high-impact collision with a van.
As a result of the severe impact, both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be rescued by firefighters from the Madrid City Council Fire Department. Emergency services, including Samur-Protección Civil, attended to the injured.
Among the injured, a 34-year-old man, the driver of the car, suffered thoracoabdominal and pelvic trauma, and had a low level of consciousness. After being intubated at the scene, he was evacuated in serious condition to Hospital 12 de Octubre. The 45-year-old van driver was taken to Hospital La Paz with potentially serious thoracoabdominal trauma.
A woman, approximately 30 years old, also sustained serious injuries, including thoracoabdominal trauma, and was transferred to Hospital Gregorio Marañón. Another young woman, 23 years old, was treated at Hospital 12 de Octubre for a mild head injury. The Madrid Municipal Police escorted the ambulance convoys to ensure the swift transfer of the seriously injured to various hospitals.
