The events unfolded around 4:00 AM on Castillo street, an area known for drug dealing. Officers from the Citizen Attention Group (GAC) identified a suspicious vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver ignored their signals and fled.
The pursuit spanned several capital roads, including the A-42 and the M-30, before ending on the M-40. Approximately at 4:30 AM, the vehicle entered the M-40 against traffic at exit 19A, near Camino de Hormigueras, where it collided head-on with a van.
As a result of the impact, the drivers of both vehicles were trapped and had to be rescued by the Madrid City Fire Department. SAMUR emergency services attended to four people at the scene, three of whom were in serious condition.
The driver of the fleeing car, a 34-year-old man, sustained thoracoabdominal and pelvic trauma and was transported intubated and in serious condition to Hospital 12 de Octubre. The van driver, a man around 45 years old, was evacuated to Hospital La Paz with thoracoabdominal trauma, also in potentially serious condition.
The two women traveling in the car, aged 30 and 23, were taken to Hospital Gregorio Marañón and Hospital 12 de Octubre, respectively, with various traumatic injuries. The other two occupants of the car were taken into police custody after the accident. All five detainees, all Spanish nationals, are facing charges of assault on authority, injuries, and offenses against road safety.
