The Scientific Culture Unit of the Royal Botanical Garden-CSIC is finalizing details for the activity 'Scientific Challenges: Doing Science in the Botanical Garden'. Registration for this science outreach event will open on Monday, September 14th, at 9:00 AM via a specific link.
The activity, aimed at fourth-year ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) and Baccalaureate students, will take place on the morning of Friday, September 25th, at the RJB-CSIC facilities. Over two hundred students will face a scientific challenge to solve by following clues provided by the Botanical Garden's researchers.
Topics will include taxon identification, biodiversity conservation, genetics, soil microorganisms, pollinators, and histological studies. The aim is to showcase the scientific work of the RJB-CSIC, highlight the importance of botany, and foster scientific vocations.
Felipe Castilla, the event's coordinator, emphasized the goal of raising awareness about ecosystem threats, understanding their ecology, and applying critical thinking to find solutions.
Irene Fernández de Tejada de Garay, head of the Scientific Culture Unit, thanked nearly twenty researchers for their involvement in helping students identify ecosystem threats and propose corrective measures.
The event will be divided into two sessions: the first from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and the second from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Both will begin in the Assembly Hall with a brief presentation and instructions before heading into the Garden for the challenges.
This science outreach project is promoted by the Regional Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities and coordinated by the madri+d Foundation.
