The number of passengers using the Madrid Metro in June saw an increase of 3.8% compared to the same month last year. On the other hand, passengers on the buses of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) experienced a decrease of 8.4%. According to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the EMT handled 43.57 million passengers in June, while the Madrid Metro reached nearly 63.7 million.
Across the entire Community of Madrid, 50,695,000 passengers used buses in June, representing a decrease of 6.4% compared to the same month the previous year. Nationally, bus transport saw an increase of 1.6%. Year-to-date, the average growth for urban transport in the region stands at 0%.
Regions such as the Region of Murcia (+12%), Extremadura (+10%), and Asturias (+8.6%) led the increases in urban bus transport. Madrid is positioned as the only region with a negative rate, experiencing a decrease of 6.4%.
