Madrid City Council has completed the handover of 84 new affordable rental homes in the El Cañaveral neighborhood, marking further progress in the municipal public housing strategy.

The development, known as Cañaveral 9, includes 84 apartments with varying capacities, ranging from two to four bedrooms. The residential complex also features 123 parking spaces and four commercial premises intended to boost activity in the Vicálvaro district.
The project involved an investment exceeding 19 million euros. This figure includes contributions from the Madrid City Council as well as Next Generation European funds, managed through an agreement between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda and the Community of Madrid.

"These new apartments, in addition to contributing to increasing the public housing stock in the capital, will enable access to affordable rental housing for young people in Madrid."

The building's design prioritizes efficiency and comfort through cross-ventilation and central courtyards. Additionally, the surroundings include perimeter garden areas to encourage neighborly interaction. Rents will be adjusted to each family unit's income, never exceeding 30% of their earnings.
Currently, the Municipal Housing and Land Company (EMVS Madrid) manages a portfolio of nearly 10,000 public apartments. The development in El Cañaveral includes a total of 1,212 homes, the vast majority of which are reserved for young people and families with minor children.
