A coordinated operation involving the National Police, Civil Guard, and Customs Surveillance has dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to smuggling base cocaine into Madrid via the cargo terminal of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

The investigation, which included collaboration from the Prosecutor's Office and the Ecuadorian Police, began after two separate inquiries converged on one of the suspects. This individual used an import company he owned as a front for his illicit activities.
The criminal group relied on the assistance of a transporter and a third person who had rented a premises in Madrid, used for storing and safeguarding the merchandise. The concealment method was particularly sophisticated, as the drugs were hidden inside numerous chocolates.
In early February 2026, investigators identified a shipment from the implicated company, declared as “chocolate tears.” Ecuadorian authorities then detected that this shipment concealed a significant quantity of base cocaine paste.
Coordination between police units in both countries and their respective prosecutor's offices allowed for the tracking of the narcotics. The operation culminated in the arrest in Madrid of three individuals for alleged involvement in a criminal organization and drug trafficking.

The concealment method was especially sophisticated, as in a shipment of over 400 kilograms of merchandise, the drug was hidden inside numerous chocolates.

As a result of this intervention, 62,827 grams of cocaine were seized, representing a significant blow against drug trafficking in the region.
