The initiative, taking place on Thursday, April 23, aims to promote reading and access to culture under the slogan 'Book Day is everyone's day'. This special campaign includes a variety of activities and proposals across the national territory, reaffirming the company's commitment to the cultural sector.
“"Book Day is everyone's day."
The celebration is part of International Book Day, established by UNESCO in 1988 and commemorated every April 23. This date pays tribute to literary figures such as Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Garcilaso de la Vega, who all passed away on this same date in 1616.
During these days, El Corte Inglés has organized a diverse cultural program in its centers and at various Book Fairs in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Pamplona, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Palma de Mallorca. The goal is to create meeting points for readers, authors, and professionals in the publishing industry.
Additionally, the company will set up street-level bookstores in several locations, bringing literature closer to citizens and strengthening its role in promoting knowledge and personal development. In Barcelona, coinciding with the Sant Jordi festival, a prominent program has been prepared with book signings throughout the day, from 11:00 to 21:00, in emblematic locations such as Plaça de Catalunya, Diagonal, and Passeig de Gràcia.
El Corte Inglés, which operates 93 physical bookstores, 118 sales points in Supercor, and an online bookstore, maintains a strong commitment to culture through various initiatives, literary awards, and collaborations with the publishing sector. Its accolades include the Ámbito Cultural Live Poetry Award and the Primavera Novel Award.
