Demolition work at the properties on Calle Cabestreros, formerly home to the Baobab restaurant, continues this week despite a suspension order issued by the TSJM.

Activity at the site, intended for a 260-bed capsule hotel, has drawn criticism from local political representatives. They claim the developer is violating the court order issued on June 10, which halted work due to the potential historical significance of the buildings at numbers 1 and 3 of the street.
The dispute centers on the heritage protection of the site. Although the Community of Madrid initially declined to grant environmental protection, concluding that the buildings had undergone significant alterations since the 19th century, various associations and political groups have challenged this decision in court, securing a precautionary suspension that is reportedly being ignored.
The situation has led to calls for clarification regarding the lack of local authority intervention to enforce the court's mandate. Meanwhile, the developer continues debris removal in an area that, until 2020, housed a popular restaurant in the Lavapiés neighborhood.
