The Community of Madrid has launched the 'Decorating the Garden' contest, an initiative that promotes the active participation of senior users from residences and day centers.

This activity is aimed at users of residences and day centers with public places dependent on the General Directorate. The main objective is to foster creativity, coexistence, and teamwork among users, families, professionals, and external collaborators, thereby strengthening intergenerational relationships.
The contest also contributes to environmental awareness through the responsible use of resources. Participating centers can decorate a newly created garden or improve an existing one, freely using the resources and materials they deem appropriate, including floral decoration and other beautification elements.
Senior users must actively participate in the project's development, with collaboration from family members, center staff, and other local entities, such as students from educational centers or occupational centers. Once the project is completed, the application must be submitted along with graphic documentation in photographic and/or audiovisual format.
A jury will evaluate the submitted works after the deadline, and an awards ceremony will be held. The IMIDRA (Madrid Institute for Rural, Agrarian, and Food Research and Development) participates as a collaborating entity and is part of the jury.
The benefits of this activity include promoting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of seniors, stimulating creativity, collaborative work, fostering a sense of belonging to the center, and promoting sustainable practices and respect for the environment.
The submission of projects for the 2026 call is now closed. In the coming months, the awards ceremony will be held, jointly with those from the 'Cultivating the Garden' contest.
