The Madrid Assembly hosted a tense debate on climatic conditions in classrooms. PSOE, Más Madrid, and Vox called for a specific plan to combat extreme heat, while the PP defended its management and criticized the opposition's "exaggerated alarmism".

The opposition in the Assembly of Madrid, comprising PSOE, Más Madrid, and Vox, on Thursday demanded a specific plan to tackle high temperatures in the region's classrooms. The proposal, driven by the PSOE of Madrid, sought regional regulation of minimum climatic habitability conditions in educational centers, including criteria for temperature, ventilation, air quality, solar protection, and responses to extreme cold and heat episodes.
The opposition groups requested measurement and prevention criteria, a regional action protocol, a Climate Habitability Guide for Madrid's Educational Centers, and a Regional Energy Efficiency Plan with technical and economic diagnostics. Socialist deputy Esteban Álvarez described the problem as "structural," citing a specific example of 31.5 degrees Celsius at 12:30 PM in a newly inaugurated school in Colmenar Viejo.
Vox's deputy spokesperson, José Antonio Fúster, supported the motion based on "common sense and dignified conditions," though he cautioned against creating a "crystal generation." María Pastor of Más Madrid sent a "climate hug" to Vox for their support and accused the PP of standing "with their arms crossed" while schools become "uninhabitable."
Representing the PP, Enrique Serrano acknowledged "concern" for well-being in schools but rejected the opposition's "exaggerated alarmism." Serrano also questioned the effectiveness of the 200 million euros announced by the central government for classroom air conditioning, stating no region had received funds. He asserted that the Community of Madrid is working on climate adaptation with "investment and common sense," allocating over 60 million euros to energy efficiency and thermal comfort improvements.
