The sporting initiative, coinciding with European Week of Sport and International Cancer Research Day, aims to transform "every kilometer run into more research and new opportunities" for children affected by this disease. Madrid is positioned as an "epicenter of a great European mobilization" for this cause.
Childhood cancer represents the leading cause of death by disease among children in Europe, with approximately 6,000 deaths annually. In Spain, around 1,500 new diagnoses are registered each year. Although the survival rate has increased to 84 percent thanks to research advancements, over 60 percent of survivors suffer long-term side effects, and there are still complex tumors, relapses, and patients unresponsive to current therapies.
Under the slogan "If you run, you cure", each participant creates a personal fundraising page to mobilize their network and raise a minimum of 200 euros to receive their race bib and participate. The funds will be allocated to "Fight Kids Cancer", a European alliance that finances international childhood cancer research projects.
The main race will feature a 6-kilometer course, suitable for running or walking, in addition to children's races. The new location at Valdebebas-Felipe VI Forest Park offers a larger space for attendees. The event will include a CRIS Fan Zone with food trucks and activities for the whole family.
The CRIS CANCER Run has received the official #BeActive seal from the Higher Sports Council. It will count on ambassadors such as canoeist Nico Adega, former athletes Abel Antón and Ruth Beitia, writer Irene Villa, and actor Javier Castillo "Potty".
