The Condeduque center in Madrid hosts this weekend the premiere of 'Imperio', a documentary theater piece by the company La Conquesta del Pol Sud, exploring contemporary China through personal stories in Europe.

The Catalan company La Conquesta del Pol Sud arrives in Madrid with its documentary proposal 'Imperio. La nueva ruta de la seda', which will be presented this Friday and Saturday at Contemporánea Condeduque. The play follows the stories of a journalist and actress, and an engineer and Kung Fu master, in their search for dreams and roots on the European continent.
Through these two personal journeys, the production offers a close-up view of current China from an intimate perspective. The trajectories of both characters intertwine in Europe, forming the narrative core of the proposal, which merges documentary material, first-person experiences, dance, and scenic elements.

"The company builds the staging from the biographical and the collective, thus allowing the universal to emerge from the most singular and intimate."

'Imperio' is the second part of a diptych that began with 'Guardianas del Corazón de la Tierra'. Both productions share a strong visual component and raise similar questions: where to find visions of humanity beyond the market and consumption, and whether there are alternative ways of thinking in the face of current capitalism.
Founded in Barcelona in 2010, La Conquesta del Pol Sud began its career with text-based theater focused on social themes. Three years ago, the company reoriented its work towards documentary theater, currently maintaining five active productions. Their interest lies in the figure of women and attention to minorities, a line that materializes in a trilogy on identity, women, and history.
The performances will take place at Contemporánea Condeduque, a space managed by the Culture, Tourism and Sports Area of the Madrid City Council. Information on tickets and schedules is available on the center's website.
