This measure comes after a significant waiting period, during which workers and unions had expressed their discontent, pointing out that Complutense was the last public university in Madrid to apply this salary increase, approved for all public administration employees.
Sources from the institution have confirmed the payment, which will be effective in the April payroll. Complutense civil servant staff had been waiting for this update since February, when union organizations warned that the increase had not yet been applied. Other universities such as the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Carlos III University, the University of Alcalá, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and the King Juan Carlos University had already made the payment earlier.
“"University underfunding is paid for by its workers."
According to a union representative, the delay is due to the institution's financial situation, which could not afford the payment until receiving the corresponding transfers from the Community of Madrid. The additional accumulated increase for 2026, which represents a 1.5% salary rise, is planned for after the summer.
The union has expressed concern about the "financial insufficiency" of the multi-year agreement reached between the regional government and the rectors' teams. They warn that, in universities with a more delicate economic situation, this lack of resources could lead to adjustments that directly impact the personnel chapter of university budgets.
The Complutense management had already indicated in March that these revenues are paid retroactively once the Community of Madrid transfers its corresponding share of the increase. They explained that salary increases represent a considerable expense for universities and that the institution depends on regional contributions to meet these remuneration commitments.
