The Community of Madrid has announced the digitization of an unpublished photographic archive comprising approximately 500 images of the poet Vicente Aleixandre, discovered in an old leather suitcase.

This significant discovery, located by the Association of Friends of Vicente Aleixandre (AAVA), includes family portraits of the writer, as well as photographs featuring him alongside prominent figures of the Generation of '27, such as Federico García Lorca. Most of the snapshots date from the early 20th century, coinciding with the poet's youth.
Among the recovered material are also several stereoscopic photographs, a technique that offered a sense of three-dimensionality. The AAVA has emphasized the urgency of cataloging and digitizing this content, calling it an "extraordinary discovery".

"Dozens and dozens of UNPUBLISHED PHOTOGRAPHS OF VICENTE ALEIXANDRE and his circle are preserved in this leather suitcase. Yesterday, our president was able to access its content for the first time, which should be urgently cataloged and digitized."

The digitization of these images, linked to the legacy of the Nobel Prize in Literature, is part of the Regional Government's initiatives to recover the cultural heritage of Velintonia, Aleixandre's historic Madrid home.
The residence, recently declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) (Asset of Cultural Interest) as Intangible Heritage, was a crucial meeting point for writers and creators of the Silver Age of Spanish culture. Figures such as Dámaso Alonso, Luis Cernuda, and Miguel Hernández passed through its rooms.
The Regional Government, owner of the property, plans to open it in 2027 as a new House of Poetry. This space will be key to the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27 and the 50th anniversary of Aleixandre's Nobel Prize. The project includes the renovation of both parts of the building: number 3 as a house museum and number 5 to house the archive, an auditorium, and exhibition rooms.
Vicente Aleixandre (1898-1984) settled in Velintonia in 1927, turning his home into a poetic refuge and a hub for literary gatherings. After modifications to its layout during the Civil War, the house remained uninhabited until acquired by the regional administration. The poet received the National Literature Prize in 1933 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1977.
