The Community of Madrid has granted maximum heritage protection to Velintonia, Vicente Aleixandre's house in Chamberí, declaring it a Site of Cultural Interest due to its relevance for the Generation of '27 and Spanish poetry.

The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has approved the declaration of Velintonia, the residence of poet Vicente Aleixandre, as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the Intangible Heritage category. This decision recognizes the cultural and symbolic value of the dwelling, located in a residential area of Chamberí, which was a fundamental meeting point for members of the Generation of '27.

"Velintonia and its memory have been fundamental for the development of contemporary poetry, beyond the physical limits of the property, due to its spirit of creation and welcome to new generations of writers, transmitting the legacy and symbolism of Spanish lyricism."

The BIC protection consolidates the national and European poetic tradition, highlighting the house's role as a meeting center and welcoming space that fostered friendship and creative intuition, allowing the dissemination of new expressive currents. The home, which was already declared a Site of Patrimonial Interest (BIP) in 2022, now reaches the highest level of protection after its acquisition by the Community of Madrid in a public auction.
The Community of Madrid plans to transform this space into the House of Poetry, with the aim of recovering the literary and meeting spirit that characterized Vicente Aleixandre's home. A program of talks, conferences, and exhibitions is planned to disseminate the work of the Generation of '27 and foster new literary creation in Madrid of the 21st century, supporting and promoting young poets.
