This significant investment, totaling 2,515,000 euros, primarily aims to strengthen the sports infrastructure of the region. The measure is part of a broader strategy to ensure that teams representing Madrid at national and international levels are not hindered by a lack of financial resources.
The call for applications is specifically aimed at entities competing in the top two levels of their respective disciplines. The clear objective is to prevent the loss of athletic talent due to the high costs associated with elite competition, recognizing the crucial role of these clubs in promoting health and personal achievement in neighborhoods and municipalities.
This injection of public money is not an isolated event, but rather part of a strategy to ensure that teams carrying the name of Madrid across the country, and even beyond our borders, are not held back by a lack of economic resources.
To ensure a fair and balanced distribution of funds, a competitive bidding system has been established. Clubs will undergo an evaluation process based on objective factors, such as the competition level, results from the last season, and the actual cost of travel, which often represents a significant financial challenge.
This grant program, which began in 2018, demonstrates a long-term commitment to non-professional sports. Since its inception, nearly 18 million euros have been distributed among 2,075 beneficiaries, highlighting the importance of this support for the survival of numerous federations and teams, including many minority disciplines that would otherwise struggle to afford official competition fees and travel.
The management of these funds falls under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport, which seeks not only to support existing structures but also to encourage growth. This financial backing provides a safety net that allows club managements to plan seasons with greater peace of mind, ensuring that the daily efforts of athletes are rewarded on the court, track, or in the pool.
