The CNIC joins the European Researchers' Night in Madrid on September 25th, inviting the public to participate in activities designed to showcase the research conducted at the center. This initiative offers an opportunity to immerse oneself in the world of science and innovation, featuring experiments and talks on recent discoveries and technological advancements.
Registration to attend the activities is mandatory and will open on Monday, September 14th, starting at 9:00 AM via the link provided on the CNIC website. All activities will take place at the facilities of the National Cardiovascular Research Centre, located at Calle Melchor Fernández Almagro, 3, 28029 Madrid.
Among the scheduled activities is 'Discovering Cardiac Regeneration Research' (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM), aimed at all audiences, which will explore the heart's ability to repair itself by studying cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) observed under a microscope. For children (6-12 years old), 'Protein Hunters' (4:30 PM - 5:15 PM) will be offered, an interactive activity to introduce concepts of proteomics and biomedical research.
Young people (14-16 years old) can participate in 'Stranger Rhythms: Understanding Arrhythmias' (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM), where the heart's electrical system and common arrhythmias will be explained. For children (6-12 years old), the workshop 'Let's Flow! Discovering Blood Flow with LAMI and OSCI (Atherosclerosis Workshop)' (5:30 PM - 6:30 PM) will address blood flow and atherosclerosis through an interactive game and demonstrations.
Finally, for adults (over 18 years old), 'Designing the Drugs of the Future: An Immersive Virtual Reality Experience' (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM) will be presented. Participants will use mixed reality glasses to visualize the dynamic structure of proteins and their interaction with drugs, while others will collaborate on the Folding@home project.
