CNIC invites participation in various activities designed to immerse attendees in the world of science and innovation. From experiments to conferences, the center will showcase its latest discoveries and technological advancements.
Registration is required to attend the activities and will be managed through a specific link, opening on Monday, October 19, from 9:00 AM. All sessions will take place at the CNIC facilities, located at Calle Melchor Fernández Almagro, 3, 28029 Madrid.
Among the activities scheduled for Monday, November 16, are 'The Mysteries of Heart Formation,' aimed at young people aged 12 to 16, which will explore embryonic cardiac development and observe real samples. In the afternoon, 'Practical Genetic Models of Cardiac Development and Congenital Heart Defects,' for ages 6 and up, will allow participants to study these diseases in mice and perform histological staining.
On Tuesday, November 17, the day will focus on 'Rare Diseases: Challenges and Opportunities' (ages 12 and up), featuring an outreach talk and laboratory demonstrations. On Wednesday, November 18, the 'DNA-ADVENTURE: DNA Extraction Workshop' (ages 6 and up) will teach how to extract genetic material from a banana.
The week continues on Friday, November 20, with 'Super Hearts in Action! Give Rhythm and Color to Your Health' (ages 8 to 12), where participants will build a homemade stethoscope, and 'Protein Race in Gelatin! Discovering Electrophoresis' (ages 6 to 14), which will explain protein separation.
On Monday, November 23, the activity 'Care for Your Heart to Protect Your Brain: Explore a Neuroscience Lab' (ages 14 and up) will address the link between cardiovascular health and brain health, including a guided tour. On Tuesday, November 24, 'Decoding the Pokémon Phylogenetic Tree' (ages 6 to 14) will use these characters to teach phylogenetics and evolution.
On Wednesday, November 25, 'Exploring Myocarditis: Microscopes, Molecules, and DNA' (ages 6 and up) will be presented, showcasing research tools and extracting DNA from strawberries. On Thursday, November 26, 'Do You Know the Relationship Between Your Heart and Cancer?' (ages 14 to 18) will explore the RESILIENCE project and advanced imaging technologies, followed by an open panel discussion.
On that same Thursday, the activity 'Want to Know How Your Heart Works?' (all ages) will allow participants to observe a beating heart in real-time using echocardiography. Finally, on Friday, November 27, two sessions of 'Raising Dragons: Investigating Mendelian Inheritance' (ages 10 to 14) will be offered to teach basic concepts of genetic inheritance.
