The initial units of the T100 and T200 models, manufactured by Stadler, are currently undergoing their final tests at the Stadler Test Center in Albacete. Upon completion, they will be delivered to Renfe for integration into the Cercanías Madrid fleet.
These trains, scheduled to enter service after homologation and driver training, are part of a 79-train contract valued at 1.306 billion euros. The T100 models will offer up to 912 seats, while the T200 will accommodate up to 1,884 passengers, representing an increase of up to 20% in the service's total capacity.
“"The incorporation of these trains will directly impact the quality of life for commuters and demonstrates our commitment to improving daily mobility."
Train deliveries will continue monthly, with nine T100 and eight T200 units expected to be completed throughout 2026. This initiative is part of Renfe's fleet renewal plan, which includes an investment of approximately 3.5 billion euros in new rolling stock nationwide.
The new trains will operate on all Cercanías Madrid lines, with the exception of the C9. This service is vital, transporting over 730,000 passengers daily, accounting for 55% of public service commutes in Spain.
The units combine single and double-deck cars, designed to adapt to demand by allowing for length adjustments. Furthermore, they feature significant improvements in accessibility and comfort, including spaces for passengers with reduced mobility, level access at multiple doors, multifunctional areas for bicycles and strollers, power outlets and USB ports, passenger information systems, comprehensive video surveillance, LED lighting, and efficient climate control. They will be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 140 km/h.
