The exhibition, included in the Epicentro program, is the work of a renowned photographer and seeks to go beyond the merely documentary function of photography. The proposal was presented by the city's Delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sport.
The work establishes a dialogue with the pictorial language of Impressionism, evoking the painting of Monet. Its objective is to open new expressive avenues and renew contemporary photography, as reported by the City Council.
Photography freed painting from the need to imitate reality, allowing the development of new forms based on subjective interpretation and the capture of the moment.
The project has its roots in the summer of 2023, when the artist resided at the Robert Garric Residence of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. During his stay, he studied the French painter's work in Parisian museums and visited the garden that Monet designed in Giverny.
From this research emerged the project Giverny 2.O, from which The Revealed Garden, a work specifically conceived for the CentroCentro space, is derived. In a world saturated with manipulable images, the exhibition highlights the weakening of photography's documentary value, proposing a more sensory experience where subjective perception is paramount.
Color and viewer perception are central elements in this intervention, which prioritizes visual experience over objective reality. This photographic research merges resources from pictorial language, blurring the boundaries between both disciplines.
The Revealed Garden is the third intervention in the Epicentro program, an initiative that gives visibility to mid-career visual artists with a solid trajectory. The cycle has already presented works by other artists and will continue with new interventions in the coming months.
The photographer, born in Yecla in 1963 and residing in Madrid, will give workshops on June 19 and 20 at CentroCentro. His work focuses on landscape, memory, environmental degradation, and the spiritual search through nature, exploring the limits of photography and reproduction techniques.
