Starting this Tuesday, Matadero Madrid opens its doors to the second edition of Biophest, a festival that will run until April 19. Organized by Intermediae Matadero and curated by Elena Páez and Eva F. Cortés, the event features over thirty activities spread across six days.
The main novelty this year is the inclusion of a film series at Cineteca Madrid, which will explore the connection between nature and the audiovisual realm. The festival's program is structured around the concept of "mosaic landscape," referring to territories where diverse land uses coexist.
The film series, titled "Docu natura por Água das Pedras," will take place on April 14, 15, and 16 at Cineteca Madrid. It will include screenings such as The Garden (1990) by Derek Jarman, The Secret Life of Plants (1978) with a soundtrack by Stevie Wonder, and Sembradoras de vida (2019). The sessions will feature presentations by the curators, music curator Diego Fernández, and art historian Aurora Carmenate Díaz.
Additionally, the festival will offer six workshops focused on biophilia, exploring the emotional bond between humans and plants. These activities are designed for all ages, including free children's workshops like "El desafío del bosque" (The Forest Challenge) and "La naturaleza de los objetos" (The Nature of Objects), aimed at children aged six and above.
