The public electric bicycle rental system Bicimad, managed by EMT Madrid, is expanding for the first time outside the capital, reaching the municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón with an investment of 2.32 million euros.

This significant expansion, which began the installation of its stations this Monday, will add 30 new stations and 370 bicycles to the service. The new infrastructure is expected to be operational during the summer, solidifying Bicimad as a key solution for sustainable mobility in the region.
The expansion to Pozuelo de Alarcón represents a milestone for EMT Madrid in its commitment to decarbonization, as this sustainable mobility alternative now extends beyond the capital's limits. This initiative marks the beginning of a connected network aimed at facilitating interurban connections and promoting greener transport between municipalities.
The city councils of Madrid and Pozuelo de Alarcón have formalized a collaboration agreement for the implementation and operation of the system. This agreement ensures the necessary institutional coordination to maintain service quality, its integration into the existing network, and its long-term maintenance. The investment and operation will be funded by the Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council, while the service management will be handled by the Madrid City Council, under the same terms as in the capital.
A fundamental aspect of this expansion is the full interoperability of the service, allowing Bicimad users to make interurban trips easily and flexibly between both municipalities without operational barriers. This integration is a significant step towards a connected and sustainable mobility model.
