Since Tuesday, the blue bicycles of the municipal rental system have become metropolitan, expanding to Pozuelo de Alarcón. This town in the west of the Community of Madrid debuts 30 stations and a fleet of 370 bicycles that can operate within the municipality and connect with nearby Madrid neighborhoods such as Aravaca or Campamento.
The inauguration was attended by the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and the mayoress of Pozuelo de Alarcón, Paloma Tejero. The Pozuelo council has covered the installation cost of 2.32 million euros, while the management will be handled by the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid. Martínez-Almeida highlighted Bicimad as a "success model" that complements the capital's transport options and will facilitate connection with municipalities in the metropolitan ring.
The arrival of Bicimad in Pozuelo, which began with the installation of totems in the spring, was formalized through a collaboration agreement between both city councils. This agreement ensures the institutional coordination necessary to guarantee service quality, integration into Madrid's existing network, and the long-term maintenance of the fleet and stations.
Interoperability is a key aspect of this expansion, allowing users to rent electric bicycles flexibly and easily between Madrid and Pozuelo, in line with connected mobility models.
The locations for the new stations in Pozuelo de Alarcón were selected based on criteria similar to those in Madrid, prioritizing proximity to public buildings, connection with other transport modes, closeness to cycle paths, and minimizing the impact on parking spaces where possible.
With these 30 new stations, Bicimad consolidates its network, which now comprises a total of 683 stations and 8,385 bicycles.
