Barrio de las Letras Hosts III Golden Age Cultural Week

The event, running from April 20 to 26, will offer a dozen free activities to commemorate the legacy of Miguel de Cervantes.

Madrid's Barrio de las Letras is preparing for its third Golden Age Cultural Week, an event that, from April 20 to 26, will offer a varied free program to bring the public closer to the literary and artistic splendor of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Organized by the Junta Municipal de Centro in collaboration with the Barrio de las Letras Merchants Association, this initiative is supported by institutions such as the Ateneo de Madrid, the Arturo Soria Professional Conservatory, CaixaForum, and the Casa de Castilla-La Mancha in Madrid. The program includes theatrical performances, conferences, guided tours, concerts, children's workshops, and dance shows.
The activities, designed to commemorate the death of Miguel de Cervantes on April 22, 1616, will begin on Monday, April 20. On that day, at 5:00 PM, a guided tour will depart from the Plaza de las Cortes. Later, at 7:00 PM, historian Alfredo Alvar will give the conference 'Adiós, Madrid, adiós tu Prado y fuentes' at the Ateneo de Madrid library.
On Tuesday, April 21, another guided tour of the Barrio de las Letras will take place at 5:00 PM, also starting from the Plaza de las Cortes. On Wednesday, April 22, at 12:00 PM, the same square will host the traditional reading of the Poetic Crown dedicated to Cervantes. In the afternoon, at 6:30 PM, professors from the Arturo Soria Professional Conservatory will perform a baroque concert at the Convento de las Trinitarias.
Thursday, April 23, will feature children's workshops from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, opposite CaixaForum. In the evening, at 8:00 PM, the Basílica de Jesús de Medinaceli will host a baroque orchestra concert by students from the Arturo Soria Conservatory. On Friday, April 24, the Fisco Teatro company will present Golden Age interludes at 6:00 PM, and at 10:00 PM, the Plaza de Santa Ana will host the baroque concert Alas de Canto.
On Saturday, April 25, a dramatized tour of the neighborhood will depart at 6:00 PM, with stops at Cervantes and Quevedo streets, ending in the Plazuela del Turno de Oficio with a tribute to the playwright Ana Caro de Mallén. At 8:00 PM, the Hispánico Modo company, along with dancer Diana Campoo, a specialist in historical dance, will perform 17th-century dance pieces. The Cultural Week will conclude on Sunday, April 28, at 12:00 PM in the Plaza de Santa Ana with the performance of El acero de Madrid, by the Memoriarte Rutas company.
