Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny has kicked off his residency in Madrid with the first of ten concerts at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. This musical event, running until June 15, is causing a notable surge in restaurant reservations, particularly in the city's central areas.
According to TheFork data, neighborhoods like Malasaña, Chueca, and Tribunal are seeing the highest volume of reservations during the concert dates, accounting for 10% of the total with an average spend of 26 euros per diner. Following them are Las Letras and the Atocha/Jerónimos area, gathering 8% of reservations with an average ticket of 31 euros.
Districts such as Lavapiés, Antón Martín, and Embajadores are also experiencing a significant increase in activity, contributing 7% of Madrid's reservations with an average spend of 25 euros per person. The Salamanca area, encompassing zones like Lista, Castellana, and Goya, has seen its share grow by over three percentage points compared to the previous year, reaching 3.4%. Other neighborhoods like Chamberí, Arguelles, Conde Duque, and Gaztambide also show positive trends.
Bad Bunny's residency at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is projected to generate an economic impact between 14 and 28 million euros for Madrid's bars, restaurants, and cafes, according to Hostelería de Madrid. The ten concerts are expected to attract approximately 500,000 attendees, with about 40% coming from outside the region. The audience, predominantly Latin American and Spanish-speaking, Gen Z, and young millennials, is anticipated to spend between 20 and 40 euros daily in fast-service and mid-to-low-tier dining establishments.
The artist's arrival has also energized the capital's nightlife. Following the concerts, various venues have organized events dedicated to Latin music, including the ‘Un Ratito Más Festival’ at Florida Park in El Retiro Park, featuring artists like DJ Playero, Rico Saoco, Raquel Buscabulla, and Lizz. Other venues such as Fitz Madrid, Sala El Sol, Shôko, and Uñas Chung Lee are also participating.
The Madrid City Council has deployed around 75 Municipal Police officers to ensure safety and mobility around the Riyadh Air Metropolitano during the concerts. The deputy mayor and delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, stated that the operation will include drone surveillance and will be adapted based on the experience from the initial events. Metro de Madrid will also reinforce the Line 7 service on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, to facilitate attendee travel, with increased train frequency starting at 6:00 PM.
